Description

Dear Colleagues, dear Friends,

Choosing a career as a rural medical practitioner is a fantastic chance and challenge. Europe is facing many health care issues in a changing context with an added impact on rural communities. Innovative solutions must be found and collaboration and open exchange between senior and younger practitioners is a key to success.

A French study has demonstrated the significant advantages of working in a rural area for a young GP: diversity of practice, practice of "authentic" medicine in primary care, inclusion in the community and sense of belonging in the local area. A young GP should consider three main points when taking the decision to relocate: working environment, lifestyle with her/his family and inclusion in the community.

Among the issues to be addressed to make rural practice attractive are:

facilitating the arrival of a new medical graduate in a remote area
helping them settle in an environment quite different from what they have known during their residency
adapting to a different way of practice
The 6th Euripa Rural Health Forum, to be held in Marseille 23-24 September 2016, will address the full scope of research and educational questions facing rural family doctors of all ages, through presentations, workshops, and poster sessions.

Attending the Forum will provide you with the key tools to becoming a rural GP, highlight the ways to nurture your relationships and prosper in the community you choose and a unique platform to exchange ideas with your colleagues

We look forward to seeing you for the 6th Rural Health Forum.

Best regards
J.-P. Jacquet, Chair of the organising committee
