General Paediatrics in Kingston upon Hull Hospital, duration of
this locum: 14 days including almost everyday on-call from 9.00
to 22.00 (Name of Consultant: Zaaz)
This hospital is the major Acute hospital in North Humberside
and serves a population
in excess of 500,000 people. There is a 10 bedded Intensive
Care Unit and 6 bedded HDU.
During my stay I have been working also in these acute
paediatrics units. I was involved in
treating a patient with meningoccoceal sepsis in the ICU during
my locum.
My job was mainly supervising of the ward with general
paediatrics, infants, paediatric post
surgery patients and advising to junior doctors at A&E on-call
during whole day of duty.

regularly headed the ward
rounds and clinics with junior doctors, when Consultants were
not present. I prepared the
regular handovers two times daily with my colleagues. I took part
in X-ray seminars and
regular clinical seminars in the afternoon. To my common
practical procedures in the ward
belonged cannulation and several lumbar punctures.
In conclusion basis of my job has been supervising acute
paediatric patients in the ward and
A&E. The prevailing diagnoses were asthma patients, general
infants diseases and wide
range of acute paediatrics including newborns.
January 2005, Locum position of Specialist Registrar in General
Paediatrics in Alder Hay Hospital, Liverpool, UK, duration of this
locum: 14 days including on-calls (Name of Consultant: Applton)
This was job in highly specialized paediatric neurology unit,
patients were mainly uncontrolled epilepsy, cerebral palsy,
infantile spasms, undefined neurological neuropathies and
myopathies.

This was and still is the most specialised Paediatric University Clinic in the
Czech republic covering all paediatric subspecialities including Dialysis Unit
and Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit and Haematology/Oncology ICU. With
super consiliary responsibilities throughout the Czech republic. The key center
of paediatric research in the Czech republic.
My responsibilities were:
The day to day care of inpatients on the Ward for Children includes clerking patients,
investigation, treatment and follow up, attending ward rounds, keeping adequate
records, and preparing discharge reports, ward procedures including IV access and
cannulation, lumbar punctures.
Mostly in the Endocrinology/Autoimmunity department, in these ward were treated
acute and chronic diabetic patients.
During my stay I developed deeper specialisation in paediatric autoimmunity
disorders, under the direct supervision of the head of the Clinic, especially in
disorders including those with heart involvement – myocarditis, pericarditis,
cardiomyopathies and paediatric rheumatology.
I have been involved in teaching of paediatric rheumatology and autoimmunity
disorders of Czech and Greek students (in English).
I have been routinely working in outpatient department for Autoimmunity disorders
and Paediatric rheumatology.

This is a regional hospital close to Prague. The work in the paediatric department
included all paediatric problematic in the general regional hospital, all kinds of
common child diseases, emergencies, including child delivery, risk newborns, night
and day emergency and ward clerking duties.
I had the management duties of a deputy of the head of the department.
There were one Children’s Ward that takes all common childhood diseases, including
neonatal acute care, neonatal resuscitation, i.v. access, intubation etc.
The number of deliveries per year: estimated 800.
I gained a wide range of experience in general Paediatrics and Neonatal care in this
busy department. The day to day care of inpatients on the Ward includes clerking

My responsibilities were:
The day to day care of inpatients on the Ward for Children includes clerking patients,

I was involved mostly in the Pneumology and Haematology department, in these
ward were treated acute and chronic astma patients, patients with chronic
pneumology disorders and patients wit acute and chronic leukaemia and other
haematology disorders.
During my stay I developed deeper
specialisation in paediatric pneumology disorders, differential diagnostic in
pneumology, and especially cystic fibrosis patients including outpatient and
consulting services.
During my work I got deeper knowledge of management of acute leukaemia and
other haematology disorders, night and weekend duties in this Clinic included very
specialised care for Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit, haematology ICU and
endocrinology ICU.
I have been involved in teaching of general paediatrics of Czech and Greek students
(in English).

This is the biggest Infectious University Clinic in the Czech republic, where are
treated all patients from newborns up to the elderly with any kind of infectious
diseases. incl. AIDS and tropical medicine.
Therapeutic activities are concentrated particularly on the diarrhoeal diseases,
infections of the nervous system (including meningococcal invasive disease and
Lyme borreliosis), viral and bacterial acute respiratory infections and subsequent
conditions, viral hepatitis and differential diagnosis of liver diseases, parasitic
infections, HIV infection/AIDS, sepsis and infective endocartidis, travel infections
(typhoid fever, malaria and others), zoonoses, fungal diseases etc. Patients with
infectious diseases have both standard and intensive care (including support of vital
functions and renal replacement methods).
I have been working in all basic departments of this Clinic including AIDS department
for 4 months and ICU department for 3 months.
During my stay in this Clinic I has been involved in research of clinical immunology,
especially infectious mononucleosis.
